A documentary film by the AG-Film of the former Frithjof Nansen High School

The sound film in 16 mm format was commissioned by the Wedding district office between June 1965 and June 1966. With its numerous aerial shots and the shots of the Berlin Wall, it shows the Wedding district of the time almost 60 years ago.

From a helicopter perspective, Wedding appears on the screen: residential areas, industrial facilities, green spaces, the Berlin Wall and the town hall. The film was intended to serve as an external representation of the Wedding district of the time, a few years after the construction of the Berlin Wall.

It was shot by the student film working group of the Frithjof Nansen High School on Gotenburger Strasse under the direction of Hans-Lutz Becker. The district council approved 9,000 DM for financing. All sound recordings were made in the studio of the State Film Office, including the music of two bands and the accompanying commentary; the sounds came from the archive. The school choir was also involved in the sound recording.

The Mitte Museum is showing the only copy of the film currently available. Due to the age-related condition, the sound and image are poor, but this is precisely what makes them so impressive in their authenticity.

During the event, contemporary witnesses from the school's surroundings will also report and help to understand the context in which the work was created. This brings the mid-1960s back to life.
