On Sunday, June 1, 2025, Berlin and all of Germany will celebrate the 20th UNESCO World Heritage Day under the motto “Educate, connect, inspire – 20 years of UNESCO World Heritage Day.”

In Berlin, a diverse program of guided tours, festivals, exhibitions, and hands-on activities invites visitors to discover the capital's World Heritage from new perspectives and reflect on its significance for the present and the future.

The focus will be on the city's existing and potential World Heritage sites. At the same time, Berlin's Museum Island will celebrate the anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the Altes Museum 200 years ago with a three-day island festival, free guided tours, and a stage program. Various city tours provide insights into Berlin's modernist housing estates, including the Carl Legien housing estate, the White City, the Siemensstadt ring settlement, and the Papageiensiedlung in Zehlendorf. A walk along Karl-Marx-Allee is also on the program.

A special highlight is the opening of Pfaueninsel, part of Berlin's oldest World Heritage Site, “Palaces and Gardens of Potsdam and Berlin.” In addition to the restored palace, visitors can also explore the otherwise inaccessible Meierei and Beelitzer Jagdschirm. In Zehlendorf, visitors can also enjoy a neighborhood festival with coffee, cake, and guided tours of the Waldsiedlung.

Many of the events are free of charge and open to the public. Advance registration is recommended for some guided tours. For more detailed information on meeting points, times, and conditions of participation, please visit the websites of the respective organizers.
