chamber rock opera by Kerem Hillel

How do people talk about war? In a time when all empathy is so politicized and charged that people prefer to remain silent for fear of saying the "wrong" words. Can cross-border grief work also be learned at adult education centers?

The "three steps" method applies the three stages of the Orpheus myth, the story of the first world rock stars, in the sober band rehearsal room: Free your inner grief! Dance pain and sing fear of loss!

To imported rock music from the Middle East and distorted sounds from Monteverdi; with texts by Borchert, Kaléko, Kerem Hillel and from Facebook reports, the old and almost lost magic of the theater is revived for a moment: it can once again shine in what it does best: bringing the dead to the living!

The Orpheus legend provides support and structure for a score of international understanding that has gone off the rails. How is life possible with the constant threat of loss through war? The lament is raised, the course participants delve deeper into the traditional roles and enter the underworld: will they stay there or will they return?

The young Israeli opera director and musician Kerem Hillel is processing the events of the past year with this project: himself coming from a country at war that he is not currently in, he asks questions about belonging and inner conflict and completes his directing studies at the HfM Hanns Eisler with a very personal work.
