Where does the human inability to learn from past mistakes come from? In his new program, which bears the title of his audio biography, Thomas Freitag attempts to find an answer to this question by playing, reading and narrating. When one deals with the past, it opens up the view into the future.

It quickly becomes apparent that the political undesirable developments all around were already recognizable at an early stage. But nothing or too little was done about it. So Thomas Freitag takes stock and looks ahead at the same time. His quintessence is a very personal one, because he has played a major role in writing the history of German cabaret.

He has parodically brought four chancellors to their knees, and when Angela Merkel packs her bags in the chancellery, he is guaranteed to still be on stage. Whether it was the NATO double decision, the fall of the Berlin Wall or 9/11, Thomas Freitag had the appropriate cabaret commentary on everything. With a comedic eye and a clear attitude, he also confronts self-criticism. After all, what exactly went wrong when you wanted to prevent Franz-Josef Strauß and end up having to look Donald Trump in the eye?

HINTER UNS DIE ZUKUNFT is a fast-paced mixture of sharp-tongued topicalities, biographical bon mots and tried and tested numbers. It is his 18th solo program and by far his most personal. And as one of the few of his guild, he still manages to draw hope for tomorrow from what he has personally experienced.
