T-Boy is a trans teenager who uses the dating app Grindr to seek intimate relationships with other gay men. After only a short time, T-Boy realises that his dates do not view his body as ‘masculine’ – a view that conflicts with his own self-perception.

T-Boy embarks on a queer hero’s journey: he develops strategies to find his way within the subcultural codes of the cis-gay community.

In his first solo piece, João d’Orey combines autofictional storytelling with music and dance. Having most recently been staged at the Maxim Gorki Theatre, amongst other venues, the story now finds a new home at the Berliner Ensemble.

In actress Malaya Stern Takeda’s directorial debut, T-Boy asks whether pure desire can exist beyond gender and sexual identity, whilst confronting the harsh reality of the stigmatisation that trans bodies experience in a socio-political and medical context.

Performed in English with German surtitles.
