Faced with pressure from his partner, Elijah decides to have a gender reassignment surgery in his home country of Iran. His influential cousin Mela, who works in the petroleum industry, supports him in this process.
For Elijah, this conversion represents a survival strategy, since homosexuality and bisexuality are severely penalized in his country, while gender reassignment is relatively tolerated.
After his mate leaves him, Elijah longs to break out of this new body and break away from a family and state that enforces desire and belonging through violence.
