International Exhibition of Chinese Watercolour Art
The fascination with watercolour painting has been unbroken since its first emergence in Europe in the late 18th century. Since its introduction as an art form in China, it has also enjoyed great popularity there and has developed strongly in the last century. Gradually, a unique Chinese style has emerged.
The international exhibition of Chinese watercolour art ‘Splendid Aqua’, jointly organised by the Chinese Cultural Centre Berlin and the Changzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film and Television, and curated by the Liu Haisu Art Museum (Changzhou Art Museum), will open in Berlin on 16 October 2024 in the presence of the artists.
The exhibition presents selected contemporary works by the outstanding Chinese watercolour artists Li Qing, Wan Ye and Shi Qian.
The works of participating artist Li Qing, Director of the Liu Haisu Art Museum (Changzhou Art Museum), focus on the representation of contrasts. They express the small within the large and complexity within simplicity.
Using watercolours, large-scale themes are treated with great delicacy, as it were, thus acquiring a deeper meaning and incomparable expressiveness.
The landscape watercolours by Wan Ye and the fan-shaped watercolour paintings by Shi Qian reveal the diversity and richness of contemporary Chinese watercolour painting from different perspectives.
