Everything is ‘on the move’!

Great stories told in a nutshell: Under the theme ‘In Motion’, the creativity of short films will be celebrated across Germany from 15 to 21 December – the shortest day of the year – for the 15th time. Following nearly 600 events in 2025, everyone is once again invited this year to organise their own events featuring short films of all kinds and genres.

Whether in a cinema or cultural centre, in a classroom or at a nursery, at Christmas markets, in the woods or on the walls of buildings – anything is possible. Organisers are encouraged to get creative and enhance their events with film discussions, live music or culinary treats.

Both organisers’ own film programmes and selections from the diverse KURZFILMTag programme will be screened.

The patron of the 15th KURZFILMTAG is Dr Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg: “Innovative, surprising, incisive and, even in their shortest form, full of perspectives: that is the fine art of short films. Time and again, the short film succeeds in capturing social trends in real time and turning the camera towards what the audience all too easily overlooks. In times when challenges often come at us in fast motion, the short film opens up new perspectives for us. I warmly congratulate KURZFILMTAG on its 15th anniversary and wish its audience and all those involved in organising the event inspiring encounters and cinematic experiences that leave a lasting impression.”

Everything is in flux, everything is ‘in motion’: films touch us both emotionally and intellectually, leaving us moved. We ourselves, our surroundings and society are also in a state of constant change – sometimes rapid, sometimes slow. Whether we’re taking steps forwards or backwards – nothing stays the same.

“With this year’s theme, we want to encourage people to reflect on what it means to be ‘in motion’: Where are we heading? What is changing? And what can we ourselves set in motion? Last but not least, films are, of course, moving images in their own right – and so the theme fits KURZFILMTAG perfectly! We’d be delighted if organisers drew inspiration from this and incorporated the theme of movement into their events.” Felix Völkel, Project Manager, KURZFILMTAG
