Chansons from Berlin
Chanson-Nette offers genuine Berlin entertainment with just the right mix of cheeky to sentimental.
The repertoire ranges from the virtuosos of Berlin humour, who draw on the abundance of big city life, such as Kurt Tucholsky, Erich Kästner, Friedrich Hollaender, Werner Richard Heymann, Claire Waldoff & Co. to contemporary cabaret authors.
You can't get more Berlin than this! Welcome to this pleasure with wit and depth.
- Singing: Jeannette Urzendowsky
- Piano and harmonica: Harry Ermer
It's hard to describe chanson-ette Jeannette Urzendowsky better than the Berlin "Tagesspiegel": "With her red tousled hair, cheeky wide mouth and big eyes that tell funny and serious stories at the same time, the lively artist is one of the few actors who can credibly embody a Berlin original".
Chanson-Nette Jeannette Urzendowsky is a Berlin plant from the Friedrichshain neighbourhood. After training as a singer and actor, she has devoted herself professionally to cabaret for ten years. Before that she studied medicine and became a medical specialist. But her great love is music and acting on stage. Her repertoire includes chansons and cabaret lyrics from the twenties until today as well as her own chansons, written and composed for her. She performs on cabaret stages and in theatres and salons in Berlin and throughout Germany. Tours have taken her to Rome, Nice, Geneva and through Namibia.
Harry Ermer was born in Landau in the Palatinate and is a trained sound engineer. From 1990 he played keyboard in the Wintergarten Varieté Berlin and from 1992 was pianist in the orchestra of the Theater des Westens. This was followed by theatre and concert engagements in Berlin at the Renaissance Theatre, the Schlosspark Theatre and the Bar jeder Vernunft, among others.
The Café Lyrik in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg offers live music in an intimate, cosy atmosphere four days a week.
The café is only open for the four selected concerts in the areas of chanson, klezmer, tango and jazz from Wednesday to Saturday from 7 pm.
