A Literary and Musical Reading

Pina Bausch transformed dance and, with it, the way in which people are portrayed on stage: ‘I once said: I’m not interested in how people move, but in what moves them. This statement has been quoted many times – and it remains true to this day.’

The reading brings together two voices: in excerpts from a speech given at the Kyoto Prize award ceremony, Pina Bausch talks about her life, her work and her search for her own language on stage. These are juxtaposed with the recollections of the dancer Jo Ann Endicott.

This gives rise to a dialogue about an extraordinary artistic collaboration; about trust and devotion; about the desire to push boundaries; but also about exhaustion, doubt and conflict.
