After the end of Bruno and Paul Cassirer's successful art salon in 1901, Paul Cassirer took over "the art institute and the art publishing house" on Victoriastrasse in the historic Tiergarten district.
It was not until 1909 that he began a new series of publications with a total of nineteen "works of the Pan Press". The lithographs, etchings and woodcuts of the books and portfolios were printed on the hand press, by Ernst Barlach, Max Beckmann, Lovis Corinth, Max Slevogt and others.
A comparison of publishing strategies and bibliophile series reveals Paul Cassirer's special avant-garde calculation between art trade and publishing.
Dr. Michael Lailach, art historian. Head of the Book Art Collection at the Art Library of the Berlin State Museums - Prussian Cultural Heritage.
