15 years of research, restoration and international cooperations
In the so-called Dome Room, the regional art of the various oases of the Northern Silk Road (now China) is displayed in an architecture inspired by the desert landscape with a partial reconstruction of the “Cave of the Sword Bearers.”
The focus of the “Study Collection” is the reconstruction of the “Cave of the Ring-bearing Doves.” Wall paintings, clay sculptures, wooden objects, manuscripts and painting fragments made of silk and paper were researched and restored. Research on the objects also continues today.
The different religions and more than 20 languages and scripts can be researched only in team work. In the guided tour, curator Lilla Russell-Smith from the Museum of Asian Art explores how the results of the restoration projects and the international collaborations have significantly influenced the design of the two exhibition rooms.
