Every year on January 19, the day of his murder in 2007, the Gorki commemorates the political commitment of journalist Hrant Dink, who campaigned for a sustainable Armenian-Turkish rapprochement throughout his life.

After his murderer was released early from prison in November 2023 after 16 years in prison, this year they are focusing on the legal complications surrounding freedom of thought and expression in Turkey.

Arrested Justice brings together the lives of Hrant Dink, the writer Doğan Akhanlı and the imprisoned philanthropist Osman Kavala in the form of two productions, a presentation and a panel. The project shows how closely their biographies are linked in the fight for freedom of expression.

Despite their clear defeat in the local elections last March, the coalition of Erdoğan's AKP party and the ultra-nationalist MHP does not hesitate to continue political repression. Similar to the laws passed in Russia and Hungary in recent years, a so-called "agent law" is currently being drafted to criminalize critical, independent news channels, cultural institutions and civil society organizations and cut off their ties to foreign countries.

In the accompanying panel to Arrested Justice, Erden Kosova speaks with the director of Anadolu Kültür, Asena Günal, and the Dink family's lawyer, Hülya Deveci, about the legal challenges in Turkey and the latest developments in the Osman Kavala/Gezi and Hrant Dink cases.
