In 1935, at the age of only 27, Olivier Messiaen created his cycle "La Nativité du Seigneur". Many of Messiaen's contemporaries met his extremely progressive tonal language by the standards of the time, which was characterized by the use of modal harmonies, exotic rhythms and bird songs, as well as his preference for religious themes, with incomprehension.

"La Nativité" was, however, already enthusiastically received by the audience at its premiere in Paris.
