The monthly organ concert in the Sophienkirche in April will be performed by Daniel Beilschmidt, who is a university organist in Leipzig, organist of the famous historical Trost organ in the Schlosskirche in Altenburg, concert organist, composer and university lecturer.
His extremely diverse musical profile ranges from highly acclaimed complete performances of the organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach, John Cage and Olivier Messiaen to the realm of improvisation and free jazz.
His program for the Schuke organ of the Sophienkirche includes movements from Olivier Messiaen's avant-garde "Livre d'Orgue," Johann Sebastian Bach's virtuoso Toccata in F major, and Klaus Huber's "Cantus cantricans," as well as a work by his recently deceased teacher Volker Bräutigam and the first organ sonata by Paul Hindemith, whose music was considered "degenerate music" during the Third Reich and who was forced to emigrate.
