When I was a little girl, I was sitting on the beach with my father. The sea was as dark as the sky. Suddenly, a spot of light appeared on the horizon. It was not coming from boats and it was not moving. There was another land just opposite from us, like a fairyland with shiny lights in the middle of the sea. At once, I asked my father where the lights were coming from.

''It is another country. It is Greece my little girl'', my father replied. I was shocked! Until then thought the sea was the end and that there was nothing else. I told him full of excitement ''I wanna go there dad, it is so near!!!'' His answer was bitter: ''You can’t go there whenever you want Ayşe''.

„NOMAD“ is a biographic physical theatre performance centred in the experiences of Ayşe, a Turkish female immigrant in Europe. Tender and funny, it explores migration through the point of view of three characters - Ayşe, the heroine, and two institutional monsters, Eric (policeman/immigration officer) and the Paper Creature (and absurd embodiment of bureaucracy). Whether work, marriage or refuge is the reason for migration, the period of waiting administrative limbo – which can last years – and the bureaucratic encounters that become the shared experience of all migrants. Based in Gözde’s own journey as an immigrant in Europe.

This performance is inspired in migrants lived experience of paperwork, clerks and survival in a foreign country (finding work, learning language,...). Whether work, marriage or refuge is the reason for migration, the period of waiting administrative limbo -which can last years – and the bureaucratic encounters that become the shared experience of all migrants.

This is a Non-Verbal show.
