A cappella – pure choir. This is how the new season begins. The piece that we are presenting to you as part of the Berlin Music Festival: Sergei Rachmaninoff's "All-Night Vigil". 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of the famous Russian composer and pianist, who fled the October Revolution in 1917 and was never to return to his homeland.

The “All-Night Vigil” from 1915 is considered a showpiece of the renaissance of Russian Orthodox church music at the turn of the 20th century. The recourse to traditions, which is shown in it, stimulates reflection and discussion, not only against the background of the current political situation.
