In cooperation with the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin, another Musethica concert week will take place from October 17 to 24.

Five music students from the Berlin University of the Arts will collaborate with renowned pianist Cédric Pescia to develop a concert program, which they will perform at social institutions and publicly accessible concert venues.

The young musicians:

Dayoon You (violin), Martta Kunnola (viola), Marie Laetitia Braun (cello), Anton Li (clarinet), Mariana Santos (horn)

Program excerpt (subject to change):

  • Ernst von Dohnányi: Sextet in C Major, Op. 37
  • Robert Schumann: Adagio and Allegro for Horn and Piano, Op. 70
  • Robert Schumann: Fantasiestücke for Violin, Cello, and Piano, Op. 88
  • György Kurtág: Hommage à R. Sch. for clarinet, viola, and piano, Op. 15d

The Musethica Session provides a rich learning experience for music students. Over the course of five days, they perform up to three concerts daily, usually far from traditional concert halls and before audiences who, for the most part, have little or no exposure to classical music. The concerts take place at venues such as the Ricam Hospice, the Women’s Correctional Facility, the German Red Cross Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Association for the Blind.

The primary goal of this educational approach is to strengthen the music students’ performance skills. At the same time, Musethica contributes to social inclusion. During the post-concert discussions—which are an integral part of Musethica concerts—the musicians often gain new perspectives, both on individual works and on their role as professional musicians.

The concert week is being organized as part of the EU project “1000+ Concerts: Innovating Higher Music Education Through Social Inclusion.”

  • Admission to the Musethica concerts is free.
  • No registration is required.
