The exhibition "Modulor" presents Carlos Silva at Galerie treppe b, an artist represented in artothek berlin. Located in the Unité d'abitation (Berlin type) in the Le Corbusier residential building near the Olympic Stadium, the architecture and art gallery pays special attention to positions of post-war modernism and contemporary art.
Carlos Silva, who was trained as an architect in Bogota/Colombia, deals with the anthropometric measurement system "Modulor" conceived by Le Corbusier in a painterly and spatial way.
His murals, executed on site, allow the "Modulor" to be experienced sensually in its human dimensions. Fine lavures contrast with precisely executed circles and arcs, in recent years executed freehand, Silva has recently been experimenting with (self-made) compasses and the compass punch.
Despite the approach to mathematical perfection, his works always retain their organic character.
Le Corbusier's theory of measurement and Silva's painterly practice are related to each other and enable a new questioning of the material.
The event in cooperation with the Förderverein Corbusierhaus e. V. is part of a dialogue series with which artothek berlin introduces itself to a broader public beyond Pankow.
Carlos Silva was born in Cali, Colombia and trained as an architect in Bogota. He has been working as an artist and interior designer in Berlin since 1999.
In his works, which mainly comprise painting, installation and sculpture, Carlos Silva explores his personal observations of the city and its architecture. The composition of his works focuses on geometry and classical proportions. Every choice of colour and every brushstroke reveal a linear precision, fluidity and spontaneity. Like a calligraphic mark, the artistic process is a juxtaposition of control and chance that cohere in a unique way.
NO SORROW – BORROW / artothek berlin
With the artothek berlin, a group of visual artists from the Milchhof e. V. studio community has developed a contemporary artsharing concept to make the diverse art production in Pankow more visible.
artothek berlin promotes artists in the district of Pankow and acts as an art mediator by establishing uncomplicated personal contact between users and artists when borrowing works of art via the website www.artothek.berlin. It also offers a cross-media platform with information about art events in Pankow for artists and interested parties.
In 2023, the Park-Klinik Weißensee invites twelve contemporary artists from the new artothek berlin in Pankow to present their diverse positions in the Magistrale during the artspring berlin festival.
Under the aegis of Milchhof e. V., artothek berlin cooperates with the platform artspring berlin, a socio-cultural initiative for networking, self-organisation and presentation for artists.
