Lecture by Christoph Haase, Project Manager Branitzer Baumuniversität, SFPM

Poor soil and a lack of water posed major challenges for Prince Pückler in the middle of the 19th century when creating his famous landscape park in Branitz. Nevertheless, he succeeded in creating "an oasis out of the desert". Preserving this "oasis" in times of accelerating climate change and developing it for the future requires new approaches in the preservation of garden monuments.

Climate-resilient woody plants for historic gardens are being tested and cultivated at the "New Branitz Tree University". The presentation provides an insight into the challenges and objectives of the model project and highlights the advantages of the park's own tree nurseries.
