The Berlin Festival for Contemporary Issues "MaerzMusik" will take place from March 17 to 26, 2023. MaerzMusik – Festival for Time Issues sees itself as a venue for experiencing art and thinking about how we deal with time. Contemporary music is its centre and point of departure for an exploration of the nature of time in life, art and theory.
A Festival for Time Issues – that is a place devoted to our most valuable resource: time. Time, understood as a dimension of experience equally accessible to each and every one. A phenomenon that resists reduction and definition. Time as a medium of music and the arts that transcends chronological and efficiency-oriented regimes.
The entire program will be published in mid-January 2023. Advance ticket sales will begin on January 23, 2023.
Kamila Metwaly, who will be the artistic director of Berliner Festspiele's 2023 MaerzMusik festival, focuses her work on decolonial listening as a sonic and philosophical quest aimed at creating more inclusive programs.
For the 2023 edition, she will collaborate with composer and conductor Enno Poppe as guest curator.
As a preview of the 2023 program, the following have already been announced: "hide to show" by Michael Beil at the festival opening on March 17 at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, a focus on the Polish composer Lucia Dlugoszewski, and works by Laure M. Hiendl, Elaine Mitchener, and Mathias Spahlinger.
