Concert & Jam Session
The group JatzKatzenFabrik was formed in 2018 on the initiative of the (West) Berlin jazz veteran and drummer Hans-Dieter “Sherry” Bertram.
Originally formed specifically for a concert organised by “Jazz für Alle e.V.” at the Bürgerhaus Lichtenrade, it had, since its inception, become a playground for its arranger to explore a wide variety of line-ups and styles. Through its performances at venues such as the “b-flat” and the “Schlot”, as well as in Rostock and Hamburg, this versatile ensemble – which remains steadfastly committed to the sound of a big band – has earned a strong reputation and regularly accompanies vocalists in various programmes, including artists such as Emil Wahlgren and Ben Mayson.
Following the death of its founder in January 2025, the baton – or rather, the drumstick – fortunately remained within the Bertram family. Tobias Bertram has now taken his father’s place on the drums.
Line-up:
- Marina Thalke: vocals
- Achim Rothe: trumpet, flugelhorn
- Nik Leistle: tenor saxophone
- Julian Gretschel: trombone, arrangements
- Carolyn del Rosario: piano
- Thomas Walter: guitar
- Bernd Kuchenbecker: bass
- Tobias Bertram: drums
