With "KNM CONTEMPORARIES - Music in the Making", Ensemble KNM Berlin presents the latest contemporary compositions with a focus on artistic exchange in a special format consisting of a concert and accompanying lectures.
With the Swiss composer Beat Furrer, Edition 2024 puts one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music centre stage.
On the occasion of his 70th birthday, the Ensemble KNM Berlin will show how his work resonates with the young international generation of composers.
At the opening evening of Edition 2024 on 2 March at the Radialsystem, works by a young generation of composers will be performed alongside works by Beat Furrer:
Greek composer Zesses Seglias is interested in the physicality of sound and musical language structures.
The latest works by Daniela Terranova from Italy deal with the material from which instruments are made.
Sehyung Kim from Kazakhstan situates his works across borders between improvised music, orchestral works and music theatre.
The music of Filipino artist Feliz Anne Reyes Macahis is as if "woven with a steady hand from fine glass threads" and yet speaks passionately through a complicated world of vocal, instrumental and electronic means.
The participating composers are invited to present their works, their basic aesthetic positions and their relationship to the world in freely chosen short presentations.
The "KNM CONTEMPORARIES" series thus provides the framework for a pluralistic forum for contemporary composing, listening and discussion.
"KNM CONTEMPORARIES - Music in the Making 2024" is a project of the Ensemble KNM Berlin. With the kind support of initiative neue musik berlin e.v.. Ensemble KNM Berlin is funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
