WHEN REALITY BECOMES FICTION – A staged reading

Iris Wameling and Max Urlacher will be reading from a trilogy about life, art, crime and the transience of our world. What happens when reality becomes fiction – and fiction begins to create its own reality?

On 14 November 2026 at 4 pm, Berlin-based author and architect Iris Wameling, together with actor and narrator Max Urlacher, invites you to an extraordinary literary event at the Hotel Château Royal Berlin.

The focus is on a trilogy that combines autobiographical reflection, literary crime satire and visionary thrillers in a manner that is as surprising as it is artful: A SECOND LIFE, LIFTED UP and ARRIVED – HIGH IN THE AIR, published by novum Verlag.

  • Saturday, 14 November 2026, 4.00 pm
  • Venue: Hotel Château Royal Berlin, Neustädtische Kirchstraße 3, 10117 Berlin

A SECOND LIFE

RAISED

ARRIVED – HIGH IN THE AIR

Three books, three literary perspectives – and a story in which the boundaries between life, art and fiction become increasingly blurred.

In ARRIVED, Iris Wameling makes the fictional filming of the adaptation of her autobiographical debut novel A SECOND LIFE the very setting of the plot itself. This brings the narrative full circle, in which the author, characters from the novel, actors and film-makers come together in a multi-layered interplay of reality, memory and media presentation. The boundaries between lived experience, narrated story and cinematic projection are increasingly dissolving.

Above all looms a question that runs through all three books:

What remains of a person when their certainties shatter – and what does humanity mean in the face of the finiteness of all life?

About the author

Iris Busch-Wameling is an architect and writer. She has run architectural practices in Bielefeld and Munich, and has been based in Berlin since 2002. Her long-standing engagement with architecture, light, art and space also shapes her literary work. Her close connection to contemporary art is reflected not least in the design of her trilogy: the artist Michael Sailstorfer provided one of his works for the trilogy’s cover. As a writer, she publishes under the name Iris Wameling.
