International Short Film Festival Berlin - DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION

In times when even the act of looking has become political, how quickly can documentary filmmaking turn into activist filmmaking? In six documentaries, the gaze – the very act of looking – manifests itself as a political act.

A woman films evacuated Tehran; Alaa captures his daily life under occupation; Berlin protesters come face to face with watchful police cameras; and a letter asks whether revolutions can also begin right outside one’s own windows. Their perspectives remain anything but neutral – they hold a mirror up to those in power, remain resilient, challenge the status quo and reveal what needs to be seen.
