Monika Bartholomé – unter einem Dach

In memory of the studio of the former house owner and artist Max Liebermann once located on this site, Stiftung Brandenburger Tor has devoted itself with the exhibition series im Atelier Liebermann to the question of the creative production process in contemporary art.

This exhibition format is an ongoing reflection on the fact that this place at Pariser Platz was once an important location for contemporary art production. The invited artists share some of the inspiration behind their creations and provide insight into their everyday work in the studio. In 2023, Monika Bartholomé, the eighth guest artist to be featured at Max Liebermann Haus, joins us to present her exhibition unter einem Dach.

Since the 1970s, Cologne-based artist Monika Bartholomé (born in 1950) has devoted herself exclusively to the discipline of drawing. Through her artworks and projects, Bartholomé has succeeded in advancing the medium of drawing in myriad ways. The placing of things in relation to one another as an artistic practice can be traced as a unifying theme across her entire body of work.

The series has previously featured exhibitions by Daniel Richter/Jack Bilbo and Wolfgang Petrick (2017), Leiko Ikemura/Donata and Wim Wenders, as well as Nanne Meyer (2018), Bjørn Melhus (2019), Gerhard Richter (2021) and Michael Wesely (2022).
