A tribute to Georg Kreisler
Der Mensch muss weg’ is a musical tribute to the exceptional artist Georg Kreisler. In their concert evening, singer Maja Hilke and pianist Carolin Hlusiak focus primarily on the lesser-known pieces of the musician, poet and cabaret artist, which are characterised by unsparing, poetic, humorous and satirical texts and sophisticated music.
With a voice that modulates readily and is full of expression, Maja Hilke sings, growls and reads her way through the evening, accompanied by Carolin Hlusiak's virtuoso piano playing.
Scenes and anecdotes are used to depict Kreisler's biography.
He was born in Vienna in 1922 and, as a Jew, was forced to emigrate to the United States in 1938. After his return to Europe in 1955, Kreisler often addressed the continuing anti-Semitism as well as human and political failure.
The evening makes it clear how topical his texts still are today. A concert to make you smile, laugh and reflect in equal measure.
