Tradition meets metal, steppe meets stadium: The Mongolian rock band The HU thrills millions of fans worldwide with their powerful mix of folk music, throat singing, and heavy metal – a sound they themselves call "Hunnu Rock."

The band was founded in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, where Galbadrakh "Gala" Tsendbaatar, Nyamjantsan "Jaya" Galsanjamts, Enkhsaikhan "Enkush" Batjargal, and Temuulen "Temka" Naranbaatar met at the music conservatory.

Using traditional instruments like the horsehead fiddle, the morin khuur, and thunderous guitars, they created their distinctive style – and simply called themselves "The HU," derived from the Mongolian word for "human being." Their breakthrough came in 2018 with the viral YouTube hit "Yuve Yuve Yu."

Their debut album, "The Gereg" (2019), cemented their status as a force of nature on the international rock scene: Mongolian lyrics, inspired by centuries-old poetry and war cries, collide with massive riffs and archaic throat singing. The title refers to a diplomatic passport from the time of Genghis Khan – a clear statement of their ambition to share the history and culture of Mongolia with the world.

Their second album, "Rumble of Thunder" (2022), further solidified their international appeal – with sold-out tours, appearances at Glastonbury Festival, and support slots for Iron Maiden.

With over 900 million streams to their name, The HU have become an indispensable part of the rock and metal scene. While work on their third studio album is underway, they have a packed festival summer ahead of them – before heading to Berlin in the fall for their headline show.
