A documentary theatre piece about childbirth through the ages by Johanna Marx & Lisa Meyer
Birth — that is the metaphor for the beginning; the origin of universes. What is revealed through birth is so vast that the person giving birth often fades into the background. In this work, she speaks as the narrator.

She treats herself to a doula, she hosts a postnatal feast, she pushes whilst lying down, she pushes whilst standing. She brings her interpreter along, she pulls the strings, the doctor applies the forceps, the midwife writes a doctoral thesis. She gets into the bath, she has her requested caesarean, she lies with childbed fever, she hoards egg cells. She lays a rose, she checks her bank balance, she sings along to Madonna, she waits for her milk to come in.
The actress Johanna Marx embodies monologues that have been created as accounts of personal experiences based on interviews.
As docu-fictional characters, obstetricians and women in labour interact with one another, vividly tracing the history of childbirth against the backdrop of the tensions spanning five generations.
