As War As Love: Works by Milliken, Monteverdi, and others

Four centuries after their creation, Claudio Monteverdi’s *Madrigali guerrieri et amorosi*, with their themes of war and love, have become a source of inspiration for a new work by Cathy Milliken.

In As War As Love, an “oratorio per tre,” the Australian composer sets to music not only Renaissance poetry but also texts by Wisława Szymborska, Rainer Maria Rilke, Mahmoud Darwish, and others.

Helena Rasker and Geneviève Strosser will premiere the work in the Pierre Boulez Hall.

The first part of the program features Milliken’s early compositional works as well as music by Jonathan Harvey, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Monteverdi.
