Dance is everywhere and ever-present: no culture, country or community exists without it. Until the end of the 19th century, the history of stage dance was mainly dominated by classical ballet.
Since then, society has changed radically, and dance as an art form mirrors this continuous development. Cherish-ing traditions on the one hand and reinterpreting and developing the repertoire on the other are not mutually exclusive goals.
As an institution of classical ballet, the Staatsballett Berlin sees it as its task to question and re-evaluate tradition. They would like to give a forum to the essential topics around dance and ballet in the mirror of today's society in this series of talks and discuss them with their guests from dance science, from other cultural areas and with the audience.
