In "Pride" from 2014, which was staged based on true events, we meet a gay and lesbian group from London. They decide to collect donations for the families of striking miners at the Gay Pride Demo in 1984 under the name "Lesbians and Gays for the Miners".
The union is more than reserved. So the activists look for an affected place, the Welsh miners' village of Onllwyn. Here, too, prejudices have to be overcome. It is mainly the miners' wives who "break the ice".
Pride is a warm-hearted, lively social comedy with a dazzling ensemble of actors and a great soundtrack.
At Cannes, Matthew Warchus' work won the "queer palm."
Admission is free. Please make a donation to the Night Café.
