The German Interior Minister calls the espionage and cyber attacks currently taking place in Germany a threat to our democracy. The actors in the background: criminals, but also agents from foreign secret services, often based in Russia or China.
Those affected: parties and politicians. The party headquarters of the CDU and SPD were hacked in quick succession. Municipalities are paralyzed - for example in Potsdam. At times of major state elections, the Bundestag, the attacks increase.
But corporations are also affected and sometimes corporate leaders are directly affected, such as the head of the Rheinmetall arms company. Two out of three German companies see their existence threatened by cyberattacks and espionage.
Espionage and cyberattacks in Germany are not a new phenomenon. But the threat has increased and the spies' weapons are becoming increasingly difficult to defuse.
The RBB24 Inforadio Forum in cooperation with the German Spy Museum discusses:
How do today's agents in Germany do it: How is disinformation spread, democracy endangered and targeted? How can we prepare better for this?
