Molitva

Molitva is the Ukrainian and the Russian word for prayer. Krista Audere completed the program under the impression of the first days of war in Ukraine. The poignant Missa a cappella by Finn Einojuhani Rautavaara is the centerpiece of the program. In it are found many tones that recur in the other works from northern and eastern Europe. The piece Molitva by the Ukrainian Galina Grigorjeva and the Three Spiritual Songs by the Russian-German composer Alfred Schnittke are intended to set a sign for the cohesion of the Ukrainian and Russian people.

The second part of the concert will introduce the RIAS Kammerchor and its audience to the Baltic homeland with the Estonian Arvo Pärt and the two contemporary Latvian composers Peteris Vasks and Jekabs Jancevskis. With these mostly quiet, meditative pieces, Krista Audere hopes to create space to look peacefully inward and find hope.
