Mozart was just twelve years old when he composed his first full-length opera, "La finta semplice" - a turbulent comedy in which the characters have to devise all kinds of ruses and risky maneuvers in order to finally reach the goal of their desires.
The children's opera house Unter den Linden approaches this imaginative early work of the Salzburg wunderkind in its own way when, to Mozart's music, it works with experienced professionals from the opera world to develop their very own answers to the question: "How do I get what I want?" That's when Mozart becomes a showmaster and, together with his sister Nannerl, reveals the ultimate tips and tricks on how to make your dreams come true.
Awarded the OPUS KLASSIK prize in 2020, the Children's Opera House is a mainstay of the educational work at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Through the projects, elementary school children are given a variety of opportunities to create and perform musical theater works from their own perspective.
In addition to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, 20 cooperation partners are involved in the Kinderopernhaus Berlin, including elementary and music schools and the Caritas Children's and Youth Center Steinhaus. In the district of Lichtenberg, where the initiative was launched by Regina Lux-Hahn in 2010, as well as in Marzahn-Hellersdorf, Reinickendorf and (from September 2023) Neukölln, there are regional children's opera houses at which ambitious musical theater productions are realized every year. In addition, 13 elementary school AGs provide free social and musical support on site. Since 2018, the Children's Opera House has thus been represented in six Berlin districts, with the threads coming together at the Staatsoper.
Every year, an ambitious production is realized here in the Children's Opera House Unter den Linden together by children and opera professionals. The Children's Opera House Berlin is a city-wide cultural education project funded by the Senate Department BJF and co-financed by the participating districts.
