The history of the Tresor

The TRESOR, founded in 1991 in post-reunification Berlin, is an icon of electronic music and a symbol of Berlin's cultural reunification. Originally housed in a former vault of a department store on Leipziger Strasse, the club played a key role in shaping the development of techno in Germany and worldwide.

Its minimalist, industrial rooms became the stage for legendary artists such as Jeff Mills, Sven Väth and Juan Atkins and provided a platform for the fusion of Detroit techno and European electronics. The club had to close in 2005, but in 2007 found a new home in the Kraftwerk Berlin on Köpenicker Strasse, an impressive industrial monument. The TRESOR remained true to its origins and continued to develop into an international meeting place for the electronic music scene.
