Tabea Thielmann will guide visitors through the exhibition

Every day, people walk down streets without stopping to wonder whose names they’re actually saying. Who was that person? Why were they honored—and by whom? And why is the name still there?

Curator Tabea Thielmann guides visitors through the special exhibition Renaming?! Berlin’s Street Names and Their History, offering a glimpse beneath the surface: at the political decisions, citizens’ initiatives, lengthy debates, and surprisingly swift resolutions that give rise to—or cause the disappearance of—street names. With a focus on the Mitte district, where East and West, continuity and rupture have left their mark on the city’s geography to this day.

The tour is part of the accompanying program for the exhibition, which runs through September 27, 2026, at the Mitte Museum.
