Cabinet exhibition

The exhibition on the ground floor to the right provides visitors with information about the valuable collection of the historic library of St. Nikolai.

The interior is modeled after the study of Pastor Daniel Friedrich Schulze (1739–1811): a writing desk, a bookshelf, and a large table for laying out the writings. The work table displays a selection of funeral sermons and other personal writings from the library.

The St. Nikolai parish in Spandau owns one of the few church libraries in Brandenburg whose collection has been preserved over the centuries without significant loss. All phases of Brandenburg-Prussia’s cultural development—the Lutheran Reformation, the change of denomination in 1613, the rise of Huguenot spirituality, and the Enlightenment—left their mark, so that the library itself can now be considered a cultural monument. Here you will find further information about the historical book collection.

In addition to the cabinet exhibition “A Cultural Monument Made of Paper,” public guided tours provide access to the library room.

Before or after visiting the exhibition, the cozy adjoining café invites you to linger: under the shade of old trees on Reformation Square, in the bright winter garden, or in the half-timbered room with a fireplace.
