The huge new installation at the DDR Museum is dedicated to consumption in the GDR and uses around 600 exhibits to show how everyday life, supply and economic conditions were shaped in socialist society.
From its opening on 11 December, the exhibition will present key topics such as state-subsidised prices, supply shortages and regional differences. Special attention will be paid to the numerous original objects that the DDR Museum has received from the public, including the impressive Mangeltagebuch (shortage diary).
