The "Carnival of the Animals" consists of 16 small pieces of music arranged for string orchestra. The arc spans from baroque to modern times. Different composers bring different animals to life in their musical pieces. In "Spring" by Antonio Vivaldi, birds sing. Modest Mussorgsky has oxen pull a heavy cart. Camille Saint-Saëns has lions, turtles, elephants and swans make appearances. Paul Hindemith characterizes funny dung finches.
These miniatures inspired Thomas Paffrath (double bassist of the PKO) to invent and tell a story that comments on and connects these pieces of music in a humorous way.
The program was already presented in summer 2017 with success at "Klassik in Dorfkirchen".
All concerts are benefit concerts. There is no admission fee, donations are collected. Half of the proceeds go to the municipality, the other half is given to the cultural agency, which uses it to promote musical work with children and young people.
