Lecture series of the Association for the Promotion of the Egyptian Museum

In the Middle Kingdom (approx. 2000 - 1700 BC) the characteristic shape of "mummy-shaped" coffins developed, which became the dominant coffin type shape in later epochs. The late period coffin of Schepeniset is an outstanding exhibit - because the deceased is shown in a pleated robe and is therefore portrayed almost as if she were alive.
