Christoph Hochhäusler

His award-winning works express aesthetic, social, and political interests that converge in a genuinely cinematic focal point. His new short film *Das Paradies vertreibt uns* (2026) organizes photographs from the 1950s and 1960s—which Hochhäusler found at a Berlin flea market—into a narrative structure.

The exhibition also features documents and materials related to Hochhäusler’s early and current works—including storyboards, set photos, movie posters, and issues of the magazine Revolver (since 1998), which he co-founded—and offers insight into the oeuvre of an uncompromising cineaste.

Accompanying the presentation at the n.b.k. Showroom, a retrospective with a program of discussions will take place at the Arsenal cinema from September 3 to 24, 2026.

Christoph Hochhäusler (born in Munich in 1972) lives in Berlin, where he works as a director, writer, and journalist. After studying architecture at the Technical University of Berlin, he studied film directing at the University of Television and Film Munich. His seven feature-length films to date have been included in the official programs of the Cannes, Berlin, and Locarno Film Festivals, among others, and have received numerous awards (including the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Role in 2023, the Grimme Prize Special in 2012, and the Günter Rohrbach Film Prize in 2011). From 2017 to 2021, Hochhäusler was a lecturer in film directing at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB) and most recently taught as a visiting professor of feature film directing at the Film University Babelsberg (winter semester 2025/2026). He is the author of numerous works on film journalism, including as co-founder and co-editor of the magazine Revolver (since 1998).
