Benjamin Britten: The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra

"The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" - the name says it all: it is the orchestra familiarisation piece par excellence that conductor Dominic Limburg has chosen to introduce young people to the orchestra.

When all the instruments play at the same time in concert, they are often difficult for untrained ears to distinguish. Here, on the other hand, the sounds of the individual orchestra groups are sounded out, dissected.

As in a wine tasting, specific colours and aromas are pointed out. At the end, the whole orchestra comes together again; if you have listened carefully beforehand, you can then hear the individual groups.

For Dominic Limburg, one of the tasks of every orchestra is to also offer formats for children and young people. That is exactly what they are doing with Britten's piece: here young people can discover the orchestra.
