Exclusively for Sunday at the Nikolai Quarter, the english language guided tour of the "BerlinZEIT" exhibition provides an insight into the city's history.
Museum curator Dr. Julia Heeb introduces the exhibition format and presents a replica of the maniple of St. Ulrich from Augsburg.
Museologist Dr. Julia Heeb will provide information on-site about the "Object of the Month" – a presentation in the salon of the Ephraim-Palais Museum, which is open to the public free of charge on all museum opening days.
The rotating objects on display present new acquisitions, provide insights into projects of the Berlin City Museum, or tell stories from Berlin's past.
On display is a faithful replica of a maniple – a liturgical band worn over the left forearm by Christian priests during mass in the Middle Ages. Originally, maniples served as a sweat cloth, handkerchief, or mouth cloth.
The maniple on display in the Düppel Museum Village was faithfully reproduced from the surviving remains of a historical maniple. It belonged to St. Ulrich (890–973), a bishop in the Diocese of Augsburg.
On "Sunday in the Nikolaiviertel," you can ask Dr. Julia Heeb questions about this topic. She will be accompanied by Heidi Stolte, who made the maniple using the tablet weaving technique. She will demonstrate the art of tablet weaving on site.
