An exhibition about Berlin, the Olympic Games and everyday life under the Nazi dictatorship

Embark on the journey of a visitor arriving in Berlin in the summer of 1936. During the Olympic Games, the city presents itself to the outside world as modern, vibrant and cosmopolitan. Yet behind the carefully staged façade, the Nazi dictatorship has long since come to dominate every aspect of life.

Recreated rooms, historical film footage and original photographs paint a picture of a city full of contradictions – between metropolitan flair and propaganda, apparent normality and exclusion.

Audio guide

The audio guide takes you on a journey through Berlin in 1936. You’ll explore the city from a visitor’s perspective: from Tempelhof Airport via Schöneberg and the bustling city centre to cinemas, the nightlife and, finally, the Olympic Games.
