Summer 1932. Day-trippers and those eager to swim gather on the promenade to take the boat to the bathing areas on the other side of Lake Tegel. The new lido, which opened last year, attracts numerous guests who flock to Tegel with their families.

The bathers frolic on towels, build sandcastles, swim in the water and discuss everything under the sun. Everyone enjoys the carefree hours at the lake, unaware of the political unrest that is looming on the horizon. Scharfenberg student Ina, who is fighting for communism with her classmates, is also unaware of this.

In this site-specific theater project, the audience becomes part of the bathing action and, in addition to the basics of breaststroke, learns a lot about Lake Tegel, the bathing areas and their history, as well as about wanderlust and the beach. You will also delve into the minds of young people who still had visions in 1932 and were prepared to fight for them with all the consequences.

Similar to the previous “scenic discovery tours” by Kirschendieb & Perlensucher, “Strand” combines site-specific theater with a walk in a playful and humorous way. History and stories are told, passers-by, poets and philosophers have their say. History is mixed with fiction, current topics with local and world history.
