ISOLATED SYSTEMS

The third artspring Light Art Festival opens the new year with a two-part exhibition series: the first exhibition, ISOLATED SYSTEMS, shows five artistic positions in the Pavilion am Milchhof from January 8 to 26.

The works question and challenge our habits of perception and create a field of tension between clear geometric spatial structures and moving light. With its glass façade architecture, the Pavilion am Milchhof becomes a permeable mirror between interior and exterior space, which can be experienced as darkness falls.

Artistic positions of the exhibition Katharina Bévand artistically explores sensory and perceptual mechanisms through the use of immaterial media such as light and sound. In “Echoes of Reflection”, she adds an immersive dimension to the architectural space with projections, transmissions and reflections.

In her light installation “Beyond Liminal”, Kayleigh Maimaran deals with the concept of psychological space, which is shaped by the inner emotional world. Her transcendent, luminous landscape of light invites us to leave our usual perception and everyday life behind.

In his work “Irrlicht”, Tom Meier brings light to life by allowing a light pendulum to swing organically through the room. The result is a dancing wind of light, generated by a specially built analog machine.

Thomas Möller's works are based on commercial communication and play with the trivial and familiar. Exposing and irritating, they test our viewing habits and create unexpected levels of consciousness, as in the multiple “The little glow”.

For Joachim Ramin, light stands for information that can influence the meaning of an object. It can open up a new perspective, reveal an unseen context and fundamentally change the relationship of the object to the surrounding space.
