with Richard Frater + Boaz Levin

In the Artist Talk, artist Richard Frater speaks with guest curator Boaz Levin about his site-specific work Concrescence Plot, which he installed on the roof terrace of C/O Berlin over the weeks leading up to the exhibition.

The garden is brought to the fore here as a contestable spatial unit that moves between care, control, chance and design and thus questions the concepts of “wilderness” and “cultivation”. The artist provides insight into the idea and concept development of the project, explains what the ruderal plants are all about and how they are taken up again by the artist Léa Habourdin for the production of her chlorophyll-based anthotypes.

Richard Frater (*1984, NZ) lives and works in Berlin. In 2016 he took part in the DAAD's Berlin Artists' Program and has been working there as a guest mentor ever since. His solo exhibition Off Season was shown at the Kunstverein Munich in 2023. His other exhibitions include Im Volksgarten at the Kunsthaus Glarus, Switzerland (2020) and Compound at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2017).
