AKADEMIE FORUM: ETGAR KERET

These short stories were presented at the Jewish Museum Berlin with objects from the museum's collection as well as commissioned works designed by contemporary artists in collaboration with the author. The reading also includes new texts from his forthcoming short story collection.

Etgar Keret was born in 1967 in Ramat Gan, Israel. He has published novels, short stories and other books and is one of the most important authors in contemporary Israeli literature. His works have been translated into 49 languages and have won numerous awards, including the Platinum Prize of the Israeli Association of Book Publishers, which he received multiple times, as well as the Jewish Quarterly-Wingate Prize (2008), the Charles Bronfman Prize (2017) and the Sapir Prize (2018), Israel's most prestigious literary award, given to him for his recent book Fly Already.

As a screenwriter and director, he and his wife Shira Geffen won the Golden Camera at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007 for their film Jellyfish. He has been publishing the weekly newsletter Alphabet Soup on Substack for two years. He lives with his family in Tel Aviv and teaches at the Ben Gurion University of the Negev.
