Vortragsreihe Kunstgeschichten des Tiergartens

Adolph Menzel lived in the Tiergartenviertel from 1871 until his death in 1905, initially on Potsdamer Strasse and from 1875 on Sigismundstrasse. He was widely known as a prominent personality. He belonged to the upper class of the empire and the official court society but was also closely connected with artists and writers. The lecture traces Menzel's life in Berlin's "Old West". The focus of the analysis is on the interactions between residence, social position and the works created in the Tiergartenviertel.

A lecture by Dr. Joachim Brand: Dr. Joachim Brand is deputy director of the art library. The focus of his work in recent years has been the “Utopie Kulturforum” project and electronic publishing. He is currently involved in the research project on the art history of the Tiergartenviertel.
